Have a federal airtight 224 acl , question is when the bypass is engaged should it close Off completely the rear exhaust and everything run up threw cat ? Or is there supposed to be a slight gap or clearance on that bypass gate ? Thanks

Close it off completely, open the upper vent two rotations, then close the bottom vent all the way. Use the middle firebox vent to regulate the burn. I have the same stove.

I close the bypass completely , control the burn With the fire box vent , have the cat air open a few turns , my question is with the cook top removed and cat removed does the bypass gate seal off completely to push all exhaust threw cat, I’m getting pretty good cat temp , seems like it takes a while to get cat temp though ? I notice when I have the cook top off and cat removed that bypass gate didn’t seem to fit tight up against back flue area to seal it off completely ?

I don't have that stove but on mine the bypass seals tight. You stick a piece of paper between the bypass and the gasket and should be able to pull the paper out. Mine has a adjustment on it.
