few more drum chipper questions

I mentioned in an earlier post that I bought a olathe drum chipper.

I have a question about the bearings. They are adjustable back and forth on both the pto shaft and the drum. How or why would these be adjusted?

To keep your drum from walking side to side. Also the race and bearings will wear in, and may need adjusted, much like the front wheel bearings on a rear wheel drive automobile. Be sure to keep them greased with a good hi-temp bearing grease.
As far as the PTO, I don't know. Is it a tractor pto driven chipper?

Ralph,

Yes its a pto driven chipper. Also about the adjustments I mentioned. There are set screws on each side of the bearing casings that will allow you to move it. I'm assuming this is used to square the drum up so that the blades run true with the cutter bar.

I do have adjustable collars on the drum shaft to tighten up the bearings but the adjustments I am talking about is for moving the whole drum.
