Well after 12-months of thinking about it I finally got my 352 converted to Yellow Jacket. Hopefully will cut down broken teeth and half my usage having 2 in 1. Does anyone know of any downside to this system???

No I have them on my sc602 if I could say anything bad, price
of conversion and new teeth but I always bitc? about that.

Price is always too much lets face it. But im getting two teeth in one for the same price as one pro series. Plus the face is bigger. Not sure if this makes much difference on the grinding. How do you find the nylon thread?

Just had a chat about Yellowjacket's with pal/customer of mine who has a 60TX and he has not found them to be very good, very quick pocket wear and no real change in cutting performance. He is changing tomorrow for brand new 60TX and will be fitting SANDVIK wheel. I do most of his stumps and his present 60TX only has about 120Hrs at 2+ years and he is very particular so would'nt run on blunt or broken teeth. Having seen the old pockets tonight it seems that like greenteeth if you loose the carbide and for some reason don't notice you very quickly wear the pockets out. There are a couple more guys in Ireland running YJ's and from what I understand they are not blown away by them.

How do you sharpen them?

I haven't sharpened teeth for a long time. I use a green wheel but the mess is unreal. I went through a period of re-tipping the Pro Series. This for a while was successful and I was getting very good at it. Re-tipping a full set in about 15-mins. But for some reason I went through a batch of bad quality tungsten which chipped a lot so this put me off. With teeth I bite the bullet use them and make sure I cost them into the job's.

The reason I was asking was I used to use greenteeth and sent them out to get sharpened. I could get several sharpenings before the carbide was too thin. The yellow jackets look like a pain to sharpen.

Is there anyone on here using yellow jackets that sharpens them?

I sharpened mine at first but I hate the green mess and quit until I
can find a diamond. It was easy just take them off, use an old pair of vice grips to hold them, place them to the wheel and rotate after grinding the base metal! To the one saying all that about pockets, I have an sc602 60 hp since the change over, I broke one pocket in around 1500 stumps. I think alot depends on operator and set up but my down time and frustration level went way down as a result of their purchase. I do think; the sandisk is a fine wheel and if I ever have to replace my cutter wheel may then take that plunge! You have to justify costs in this game or work for nothing. I think this posted questioner will be happy compared to the superteeth shuffle!

The one thing you must use when using the green wheel is a respiratory face mask. That dust is lethal. Had to quit sharpening them due to the mess but its good knowing how to do it and do it properly as I'm sure there will be times when I'm going to need to do the odd sharpen.

I always just sent them out. I got my greenteeth sharpened for about $2.00 each and could fit as many as I needed in one flat rate box.

I found out a couple of months ago that my neighbor 2 houses down can sharpen my sandvik teeth. I knew he sharpened saw blades and and band saw blades and just stopped by and asked him if he could do my teeth. He charged me $3.00 each and even sandblasted them clean. Not worth me messing with them for that little.

No thats a good price. Unfortunatly have not been able to find anyone here to sharpen for me apart from a dealer and they want about £2.50 each.

What is the verdict on the yellow jacket teeth? Have you been liking them?

I do like them. changed 6 over to there new edges a few days ago took just a few minutes. I would not say they cut any different. The main points for using the new system is the cost. Im getting 2 for 1 and the ease of changing them. My only concern is the pocket. At the moment im not carrying any spares so If I get a breakage is my day finished. They do look like they could be prone to a great deal of wear. Time will tell. I do like also the nut arrangement on ether side keeping them tight.

I have broke one pocket in near 1500 stumps and yeah you will need to
shuter down. I got some spares just so it don't happen again! Keep everything tight and check them each job. Those pockets can be flipped to regain and edge if they wear. If you sharpen the tooth too much they will wear out I have a rule no more than twice and if rocked once. I also only change the highs and strait cutters on my machine.

Have been using yjs for a while now and find them a big improvement on pro teeth. The larger tips take more abuse and dont chip or crack like other types.
Also, being able to reverse them when the cutting edge dulls is worth more than the change over cost. It only takes a few minutes and you are back in action and the customer is happy. Changing the older style of teeth took forever, especially with client watching the clock. Am using Vermeer 352 4x4 Diesel and machine performance has improved, with performance on large stumps really noticeable. Also notice diesel consumption is down. Only downside so far is the chips come off the machine at high speed and cover a wide area meaning spending time cleaning up with rake and blower. Still faster than with the old teeth though.

That is one thing I have noticed it does throw the chip's out wider. I'm also getting hit more in the face then with the pro-series. If I dont have my head down it hits me on the chin under the mesh visor. What I do like is arrived at a real messy job on Thursday. Not big stumps about 6" but the ground was full of stones and stuff, would of took ages to clear down by hand. Just reveresed the teeth to the old dull set and knocked them out in not time.

I'm still torn between the yellow jackets & greenteeth, but leaning toward the greenteeth. My dealer says that the pocket faces do wear on the yellow jackets, & you have to swap them around after a while b/c the tooth doesn't seat right.

Has anyone running greenteeth had this issue??

Clean the face with a wire brush and they will sit right when you tighten them up. Have noticed next to no wear on the pockets and anyway you can reverse them if they do wear out. If you sharpen the teeth too often then you will get wear because the teeth are no longer protecting the pockets. By then the tungstens will be too short and cutting speed will slow.
I have been sharpening the teeth with a diamond wheel mounted on a six inch bench grinder, a set of teeth taking 30 minutes to sharpen both sides. The teeth are moved down the disc after two or three sharpens and replaced with new ones.
