:jawdrop: wow!!! I sure could get used to using it over the rest of my chains, just wish that my ground was a little flatter so I could peavey the logs around, but oh well, I guess that means I just get to practice my sharpening technique more

I'm a big fan of skip. Less time sharpening, more time cutting. Chatters a bit, but keeps the RPM up.

while we are on the subject

My 440 is running full skip, 24", 7 sprocket. Works well that way.

The 460 has a bar full of "semi-skip" and a 8 sprocket. The extra cc's pull it with authority, and is a bit faster than the 440.

The 64 has enough grunt that I could run a full comp, but seems happy with a loop of semi-skip on the 28" bar with a 8 sprocket.

If you keep them sharp then it works pretty well, but a dull skip is way worse than a equally dull full comp.

my 460 will run full comp 28in. in hard wood I use the skip in dirty wood less to sharpen

The skip is to aid in drag on saw and help with sprocket life, right? I'm thinking of getting a few skip chains for new Echo saw.

Mainly bucking felled trees for firewood.

Thanks!!

Difference between semi-skip and full skip?

The guy I bought my 440 from said it had a full skip. I love it. Takes a few minutes to touch up after refuel/oil, if I hit dirt/nasty logs pushed in dirt.

I think it is Full. It is a beast and wears a 28" bar. It has 2 full links between cutters. I have a 20" bar but has not gone on. It flys thru wood. But you know when need a touch up.

Not much up in my woods worthy of skip chain. I rarely even use my 18" bar. My friend has a 30" white pine in his cabin yard. It's top broke off years ago about 50 feet up and it's leaning away from the cabin so it would be an easy drop. I'll pick up a longer bar with skip to fell/buck this when the time finally comes.
