Valleyfirewood, you are dealing in more volume than he was considering. At least to me I was thinking he was talking smaller amounts like 1/3 cord or whatever max. 1st delivery I agree but repeat customers I prefer not to see.

I wouldn't even fire up the truck for under a cord. I have a few customers that burn 12-15 cords a year.

A dump bed is the only way to go. Simple and easy to use.
I stopped the petty "stack it here like this" or I wont buy your wood delivery calls.
I make most people come and get it. They see it, ok it. and buy and haul it away.
If your lucky enough to get it delivered, it's dumped on the driveway and they have to stack it.
I stopped delivering because of likability issues and the petty things costumers come up with.
Make it as simple as you can, you don't need the hassle in your life.
I sell out every year so finding buyers is not an issue.

How do you "sell out"? If I run out of logs I go cut and haul in more.

It would be nice to have an endless supply, handy and close by. But that's not the case.
I don't have a local supply at my begging call.
I get my wood from local tree companies that need to dump somewhere for free.
When I have wood, I sell it, when I'm out, I'm out.
If I had to go collect my own wood, I would.'t be selling much.
The cost of fetching a lot of wood is simply not cost effective for me to mess with.
Most of what they bring me is the big trunks and limbs that wont go in the chipper.
Some of the trunks have been 4 and 5 foot in diamiture. That's when I get to play with the big saw.
I mainly just do it for my own personal use, any extra I sell.

We pass on big stuff like that to a few people that will take it. I mostly deal with 20" and under logs for firewood.

It'd be real easy to be into it 500k for a well used buncher, skidder, delimber and log truck so I can understand not going from standing tree to final forn.

Yeah, 20" stuff is the best size for making firewood.
