Any idea what type of Wisconsin wood this is? I have better pictures now.
Based on those pics, I would say elm, probably slippery, red or soft elm. ( Ulmus rubra ) Red, slippery and soft elm are the same tree, just called different things depending on where you live. I didn't see any white lines in the bark on the last pic, so that rules out American Elm.
Good burning wood.
I was thinking elm before and even more so now.
Welcome any comments about what kind of wood this is. Young tree cut from the edge of a field in Virginia piedmont where the woods had been encroaching. It was living when cut, and it has been drying undercover for about three years. Thanks.
