When the power company came through and cleared their right of way they cut down a White Oak. We counted rings and it was 102 years old and living right near a small creek. At the base my 32" bar did not cut all the way through in one pass - but it was a little out of round and I believe it is about 30" diameter at the bottom. About 30 feet up the trunk it is still over 2 feet in diameter where the first limbs start - then probably another 6 - 8 feet of wood that is not perfectly straight is above the first limbs.

I have plenty of firewood in the other trees they cut down and could get by really easily if I didn't cut this up for firewood. What is it worth if I sell if for use in lumber or for a beam or post in Timber Frame construction? How much would it cost for me to have it cut up into lumber?

All the white oak around here gos for staves, and I would say that in Ky. that they would also. Y'all do make alot of whiskey, don't ya?:) Check around for a stave mill, you could probley get your best $$ there.

Kentucky does make Whiskey.......

When we bought this property about 12 years ago we where told that the White Oak had been cut out of the woods 20 years previously.....I guess they missed one. They did tell me the trees were used to make barrels.
