Hey guys, I've searched it and found some response but i figured that I would Start a thread to get the best answers. I have a guy who is selling a Wayne chipper model L6T318 with the 318 chrysler engine. It also has some sort of braking devise on it but I am not sure if that works. For $2500, started right up today, he just had the engine gone through, it engaged well. He says that it was originally owned by a town in Mass, and then the road agent bought it from them when he retired to use on his land. Overall it is not in real bad shape. I'm not sure on the exact year of it. I know that the company is no longer around so I am concerned about information and parts if I need them. I have pictures but i am having an issue resizing them so I will put them on later. Let me know any and all you guys know about these. I want a chipper but not a money pit or a bad investment. Thanks, Jon

Here are some pictures, no heavy rust so some sanding and painting might clean it right up. And yes the tire missing is an anti-theft setup.

You can see the braking system on the rear.

the braking system should cut the motor off when your chipping its hooked to the distribitor thats how mine was on a old woodchuck i owned.

Can you run a 4" or 6" log through it and see how it does? Can you source cutters, bars and belts? If so I think that would be a good deal, it looks dead simple and newer than mine.

Check with the owner and ask him if he knows what blade it uses and make sure you can still find some, just in case.

I can get cutters and anvils for it and I have some one sending me a copy of the owners manual. Going to take one more good look at it, as long as I don't find anything major with it i will probably take it home in the next week or two. Thanks for the input guys!!

I dont know much about those but I heard some bad things, dont know if it was about that model. Knew some old Wright tree guys that hated them and olathes. If you can find blades and such, shouldnt be bad. You'll like that adjustable chute. I wish I had something like that on my old aspluhnd whip.

Wayne Chipper 12t318

I just bought my first chipper the same as the one shown. What has me cautious is mine doesn't have any working shut down safety and this chipper already ate a arm a couple of owners ago? It did have a hydraulic brake system to stop the drum (while leaving the engine clutch engaged?) but most of the parts are gone.
Is the standard or common practice to run chuck and ducks with out a drum stop?

Do you know what town exactly? Because it looks a lot like the one the town of Norfolk used to own. If it is it didn't get much use at all. I was kept inside all year round and looked new when they got rid of it.

I'm not sure what town it came from, but it looks like it has low hours just by the shape the body. Of course there is no hour meter on it.

I have an old beast, same as that but I have done a few changes on it.. be careful It likes to bite! had to make a blower wheel for it this year. haven put it on yet. parts are hard to find but there is nothing that cant be made. sometimes price has to fit to make the first year of the company run. there aint to much ya cant throw in that bad boy that it wont chew up. used alot of asplundh chippers and for power they have no comparison to it. but as tom said Wayne has been out of business for a while and parts are hard to find. I I seen it around here for 2500 I would get it in a heartbeat for parts for mine, I like that old machine. It eats wood and eats it fast.

You hit it yooper, it's in my price range and it just has to get me through the next year or two. After that hopefully i can get something that's a bit newer and safer.

My bandit 200+ (12" disk) is for sale if you're interested. New, safer and reasonably priced considering the new paint job, tires, alternator, fuel pump and more (see attached pic).
