Was out falling and limbing pinon today with the 5100S, most in the 8-18" dia. range. I'm completely amazed and impressed with this saw, have never used anything like it. Fast in the cut and smooth as can be, like it's hungry for the wood. Nearly instant revs. Excellent balance with 18"-3/8 setup. Came away with the feeling of an extremely well-designed and built saw, certainly the finest I've ever had my hands on. Made the 011 feel capable, but old and slow.

Made me wonder: what has changed in 2-stroke technology in the last 20 years? The 011 is 41cc, the 5100 is 50cc. That's 22% bigger, but this thing puts out WAY more than 22% more power than the 011.

Made me think about ebaying the 011 and picking up the Dolmar 401 for limbing. (Oh no... I've got the disease... :D )

They do that too - don't over fill... sparks from the ignition wire on the cylinder!!! Had one last year that did.. minor melting/charing of the plastic, but scared the crap out of me.:hmm3grin2orange:

Congratulations on being satisfied with your purchase !

Sorry, a few beers makes me speak the truth:laugh:   :truth:..
No apology needed... if my dealer had told me it was a dog, I would never have bought it! :)
In it's defense, I'll say it's been an amazingly reliable dog... :hmm3grin2orange:

Seriously.. there no comparison between an 011 and a 5100, or even a lowly 026:D
So, what in the Stihl's current lineup is comparable to the 011, but not doggy?

021/023/025...

Oh yes, the 011 is reliable... I had fogotten just how much they vibrate though... but at last they have mounts, unlike the 009!

Mine doesn't vibrate badly. It's a later one (white covers). I always felt it was a good saw until I picked up something better! Catastrophe theory, I think it's called.
