Second day milling Part One

Happy New year Everyone !!

Well, I did not get started until late morning. I had a bunch of tweaking to do with my saw's and mill. When I finally got started it went pretty well. I started my first side cut with my MS270 but she did not have enough jam so I upgraded to my 039 AV Super Pro. That did the trick, off we went on my first side cut. After I was done I put a square on the beam and it was not square. So on the next side cut I spent a bit more time setting up and it came out very square this time.

Some "twisted" Sycamore we used for shelves for the years Tomato crop. And the big slab has been my work bench (one of them) for a couple of years.

Welcome Dog-River , check the oil hole in the bar make sure it clean ,maybe enlarge it a size or two . This is your on line 12 step groop for milling addiciton :hmm3grin2orange: I use double headed 16 penny nails in angle iron , only need to drive them an inch .

Excellent! I love to see wood milled rather than just cut into firewood. My first attempt was with a 272xp on 2x4s and a hemlock. IIRC, it yielded a 10"x10"x10' cant. I didn't have a mini mill so made top and bottom cuts, turned the log 90* and had at it again.

I've since milled oak and walnut up to 30" wide, and Douglas Fir 28"+ x 10'.

Ripping chain works well, but needs to be kept sharp. I got results like yours (in oak) with full chisel skip (bad advice). Stihl RM will cut faster and as smoothly, or nearly as so, as ripping chain.

Ottawa Valley, Renfrew.......what are you having for your milling lunch? Clic and dill pickles on toast?

When milling I usually opt for surf and turf, sardines and hot dogs!.....oh yeah and a lil shot of Crown in my ginger ale.

good stuff, man I'd give anything to be able to wear a Jumper, Hoodie & most likely thermal wear, Milling in the snow would be awesome
