Here are some pictures of a cattle corral dad and I built. We aren't done but it's a start. We had to do a hurry job because we had to load some wild cattle. They would have busted out of the old corral pretty easy. It was around 45 years old. I'll never have the ability to build nice finish work projects like you guys do. Also a couple pictues of some side boards I through together.

I agree I have some really nice logs to cut. I have some that would grade out. Problem is there isn't a market for them. The are worth more in firewood and rough cut then anything else. I turned a red oak log into a trailer floor. It was a butt cut that made 12 1 1/2" x 6"x12' boards. There wasn't a knot on the tree. Would have made really nice wood working lumber. I have some hickory that's the same way. Not a knot on the logs but I'm going to have to turn them into firewood nobody wants any hickory. I wish I was skilled enough to make flooring. Hickory make great looking hardwood flooring.

Yep looks good, oh and you can't beat free lumber!!
Do you use a chainsaw mill or ban saw??

I would save some of those hardwood poles for another day. Right now the lumber prices are pretty low and seeing that this is October, theyre probably going lower.

Someone around here was saying that they could burn 2x4's in their OWB for less than they could buy cordwood for.

Id save that nice hardwood for spring. The other idea would be to contact a finish furniture company and see if theyre interested in some of that hardwood. You know they have to buying it from someone?

Best wishes,
Bob

I gave some 14' x 6-15" clear oak boards to my BIL last week. He is putting a deck on a hay wagon. I get to use the wagon if I need it, but was kinda a shame seeing such nice wood go to that use. Ahh well, they make more I spose.

I can turn them into firewood for $.80 a board foot. It's worth more to me like that then it is selling for lumber. I just like running the mill here and there and making boards. If I get the other firewood contracts I'm going after I won't have time for anything but delivering.
