Splitting today I had the slip on wedge come off, when it came down it got between the grates on the out feed table. It had enough momentum to wedge itself through the grate. It took me 10 minutes to find the sweet spot where I could get it back out of the grate. Was almost ready to go get a grinder to take the little wedges down to get it out. Only needed an 1/8" to get it out.

I remove the paddles as they come loose. They are riveted to the chain and they just naturally bust off due to what we are using it for. The elevator is actually for sale, I am picking up a new to me one tomorrow from one of the local implement guys in town. I've had this one for about 5 years and using it for firewood abuses them pretty good. Its a 24', you can pick it up and move it around by hand when the ground is frozen.

7018 welding rod . This happens a lot more than people realize .

You are saying the 7018 is not a good one to use? I am not a welder, just trying to accumulate more knowledge so the rare times I try it, my efforts might improve.

The Timberwolf wedge is a slip on type wedge. It is supposed to come on and off. Sometimes when you are splitting the angle of the wood will be just right and send it flying in the air. That is what happened to me. It did not break or anything like that. Just the chance that it fell between the grates when it came down, thats all.
