I was shopping with the wife when I found a new supply of X27's for $39.95. I had picked up a second one awhile ago, but wanted to pass this on. If you're near a BJ's and want a Fiskar's, check it out.

I love BJ's...

When I got my x27 I picked it up at the local Walmart for 20.00 its nice for smaller rounds but any decent size rounds need the 8lb maul

Sweet! I got mine at BJ's back in April, but I think I paid closer to $49.00. Can't remember now.

2 years ago Sears was selling them online for $35 and change with free shipping for orders over a certain limit. I bought 2 and feel that I have bought the last axe's I'll need for the rest of my life.

I rarely ever use my splitting maul, and the splitting wedge & 10lbs hammer even less.

same. Maul is used occasionally to break apart a knotty piece or to tap the back of the x27 when the split didn't quite finish. Wedge and 10lb sledge is used to bust the big rounds in half and then back to the x27.

Black locusdt rounds up to about 20" split just fine wih the x27. bigger ones are busted in half with sledge/wedge.

Noone ever claimed that the the x27 is the be all and end all of splitting tools. There is no such thing as a tool that does everything.
