Fixing An Exhaust Leak

Not a chainsaw, but I have a 2 cyl. Vanguard engine that has exhaust leaks, the muffler flanges aren't flat.

I'm going to flatten them the best that I can, but does someone know of some "goop" of some kind, that I can use along with new gaskets, to seal this thing up??

Exhaust gasket material (most any auto parts store) is usually crushable enough to seal relatively minor deviations from flat.

I've used aluminum foil tape before. I folded it on itself and then cut to fit the shape i wanted.

Try the Fel-Pro 3009 material, it works well. See Post #10 in this old thread.
