Anybody know the correct gap between flywheel and coil for the Stihl 028?
Still working on converting this ignition. Where are all the guru's at tonight?:chainsawguy:

many good answers,,,

A plain old business card: apply blue loc-tite 242 to the mounting screws, place the business card, playing card, milk jug strip,,etc.. between the coil and the flywheel, let the magnet do its thing,,,,,the object of choice shoud be snug in tha gap, tighten screws, turn flywheel in normal run direction and remove object!! :blob2: :blob2: :blob2:

Make sure you place your business card or whatever and rotate the flywheel all the way through the entire interface between the coil and the magneto to find the area of tightest gap. Once you find the point of tightest clearance, tighten the coil bolts using blue Loctite on the threads. Let it dry an hour or so before using. I found there was a small section between my coil and magneto that was significantly tighter in clearance than the surrounding area that wasn't obvious by just centering the stator on the coil.

Also be very careful to tuck all the ignition wires into their clips/channels before replacing the cover. You don't need your wires dragging on the flywheel or getting pinched by the cover!
