when using a loop for the foot when climbing how does one advance the friction hitch with the foot loop hitch. I asssum you have to advance both knots one after the other, is that right?

loop

So you use prusik cord and girth hitch it to a biner? once you step into it though, how do you take the load off to slide both ascending knots up?

You can have a prussik cord that isn't attached to your saddle and just use it to step into to make climbing easier. A lot of people starting out do that.

You don't have to use a carabiner in that setup, just use the cord. For footlocking, you have to attach a much longer cord to your saddle as your attachment to the rope, but then you aren't stepping into it either.
