Just wondering what you guys prefer to footlock on, a single or double line. Also, do you use ascenders or friction hitch? I mostly use single line with ascenders, but want to know if it's the better way to do it I guess. I don't have to very often, mostly spike and flipline for take downs.

I like the single rope for footlocking myself and just use a hitch. I haven't been doing it for very long and need to get some hand ascenders to put together a tight SRT setup. All I have is a Pantin foot ascender.

double for me with a custom tenex rig.

Myself and just about everyone i know here uses single line for Ropewalking (ascending) gear, and doubled line for footlocking, usually backed up with an extra long 2 or often 3 wrap prussik, sometimes threaded under your shirt to keep it out the way. I generally use footlocking for spikeless ascents from 5 to about 12 or so metres (depending how fit i feel!) and ascending gear for higher climbs. I find the doubled rope for footlocking gives an easier grip, and you can quite often have your usual climbing system installed beforehand on the ground, with a bit of shuffling of the footlock prussik your good to go.

:jawdrop: under your shirt!,not during assent?. ive herd storys of aussies tuckin 12pks of Fosters under thier shirts, but never s.f.l. rigs/slings. tell me more!! mate

I footlock on a single line with a split-tail blake's tied way out, the way you would have a prusik. I was taught to do it on a doubled line, but with a little practice, the single line is just as easy to grab.

I didn't see an introduce yourself thread, by the way, so I just figured I'd jump in.

It depends on what i am doing. For the most part I enter the tree footlocking a doubled rope, then recrotch for my working TIP. I feel I'm too heavy for SRT, i have to tie in to low for comfort.

There are times when SRT is more practical, such as you have a tree that it hard to isolate, or you have only one or two cuts to make in a small area, then SRT enty work and descend.

My body does not work right any more, and i cannot hold my own weight long enough to hitch ascend. MArBars for doubled rope and a single Petzl for SRT and transferring.

Yeh i don't bother with the 'up the shirt' setup much anymore but was using it for a while, keeps it all neat and out of the way... i guess way more 12pks have found their way into my shirt since then, and my feet don't reach up so high anymore. I haven't had a Foster's since i was in Seattle for the night a few years back.. we keep our good beer and send that junk overseas!

A company in Barrie, Ont changed there name to arbor barbor last year as well!

It's a catchy name...Anchor Tree was on the list, too. It doesn't really make any sense and it's not witty, but it sounds tough. The closest Arbor Barber to Reno is in the Seattle area, so I think I'm doing ok, phone book wise.

The old school footlocking on a static double rope secured with a 3 wrap prusik loop is the method to win a tree climbing competition. But I just settle for the half the speed dynamic footlocking the tail secured with a Blakes split tail advanced automaticily with a micro pulley. I get to the top and don't have to waste time changing over to this system from the double, because 9 out of 10 I'm up there to roam around the tree anyways.
