I'm glad to see I'm not alone, when it comes to using a Pantin. I'm not as bold as MM is in making statements like he does. Personally I think I can get up a tree faster without it and doesn't seem to require as much effort.

Everyone that has watched me use the Pantin thinks it is smoother that footlocking with less effort, but I seem to get more rope per lock than I do with the Pantin.

I'm going to have to time myself some time in one of our backyard trees, to see if there is really a difference between using the Pantin or just footlocking.

I can footlock the tail easy enough. I find the pantin sometimes makes it easier to move up into the tree past multiple limbs using one leg to pull the tail and one leg to hold myself away from the trunk.

Good point, I had that to deal with today, in a big dirty pin oak. I had the pantin on and it was simple to do. If I hadn't the pantin I would have been banging hands into on coming branches.

Well to day I stoped using the Pantin. It's there in the bag just in case, only.

Worked on a large Chinese Chestnut, lots of up and down. Leaders were to far apart to swing or work from one TIP.

After the first climb, half way up, I said enough already with this mechanical thing. Took it off and FLed the rest of the day. It was actually easy, was less tired, and swifter.

Could have been the damp humid day and each move locked well, it felt smoth. Or am I maybe getting it.

Anyway, for me foot locking the tail over the Pantin.

Like walking,
