it still doesn't go back by itself. Maybe I need a new spring?

Sometimes the top beam bearing mount needs tapped to one side to the other to track right. Very minor adjustment. Makes a lot of difference.

That's a deal, even with the minor problems. These things are easy to work on & parts are easy to get. That machine will last a life time, or longer.

I should change the pinion gear; it's pretty worn and sometimes grinds when engaging. They are around a $100.
When you have nice straight grain wood you can knock out a cord pretty quick.
