Just got a new one and seem to like it. However I'm concerned about the sharp bend the climbing rope has going throught the rings. It's my understanding the sharper the bend, the less strength the rope has.

Any thoughts or comments on this?

If I am not mistaken the recommended bend ratio is 1to 4 meaning 1/2" rope should have a 2" bend. The double ring frictions savers obviously are slightly less then a 2" bend, but I think you are going to be doing far more damage to the rope by running it through a natural crotch, especially with the newer 16 or 24 strand ropes. If you are really concerned about it you can add a biner and small pully to the friction saver but this will limit remote installations.

The rope is moving through the FS so you don't have the stress on one point for long. If you tie your climbing line to a snap or biner, use a plastic thimble to reduce stress, or change ends daily, and cut off "flattened" areas.

I use a friction saver and love it. Like Stihl said it's far superior to running a rope through a natural crotch in preventing rope damage. If you're really concerned about the tightness of the FS bend on a rope you could always use a cambium saver instead. Not as smooth but you can get the radius of the entire crotch.

What length FS? Use a shorter one to keep the rings from touching.
How to retrieve it? really? :dizzy:

Remind me to ask you.

one ring is smaller then the other, so when you pull your rope back you put something that will not fit through the smaller ring on the rope. Retrieve your rope and your FS will come down with it.
