Friends sick 028WB

A friend dropped off his 028 for me to look at. It would idle but stall when giving it throttle. He changed the carb (Chinese) and it does the same thing. It'll rev out if I squirt some mix into the carb, so I think it's not an ign issue. He also replaced the impulse line. It's the first Sthil I've played with. I'm going to put in a new fuel line and filter and put in another impulse line in. If that doesn't work, what should my next steps be?

Check fuel hose, intake boot, and if you can vacuum/pressure test it definitely do that.

Get rid of the points, put a good used 0000 400 1300 coil on it.

Then rebuild the oem carburetor.

Sadly, I have no advice for you. But a 028 with pretty much the same problem. Please post an update if you got any news.

Does it matter if the engine is cold or hot? Had a similar problem with an 028 after engine was hot - turned out to be the coil. I replaced it and it was fine.
