I noticed once a tool on this forum a to install the fuel line in a Stihl saw. The end looked like a set of Chinese fingers where the pulling of the tool captured the fuel line and compressed it to easily go thru the tank hole.
The tools I have seen are just hooks that pierce the line and then you cut off the tapered/hole end.

Was I seeing things or does anyone know where this Chinese finger tool can be purchased?

no piercing or cutting to do (and don't do that)... after draining all fuel, just hook the rubber hose and fish the filter to the opening - a needle nose pliers can be helpful here. for field use (rarely done cause who wants to spill gas/oil in the field?), I have a 10" piece of #10 solid wire with a loop/hook turned in the end...

But the Stihl tool is pretty interesting construction... Part no 5910 893 8800. some dealers do sell them, try ebay. this one sells an AM one that looks nice -
