(I did do some searching first.)

Anyone have a recommendation on brands of fuel stabilzer in saws? Briggs&Stratton? Sta-bil?Seafoam?

With my small 4 strokes I have always used Briggs and Stratton FS, but it is much more expensive than something like Sta-Bil, which I have not used.

Don't mind paying more if I am getting more, but if Sta-Bil is just as good I may start running that.

I've been using Stihl dino oil with their flavor of stabilzer in all my saws, and I am thinking of trying something like Mobil 1 2T (less smoke?), so I have stabilizers on the mind this morning.

I use Sta-bil.. but NOT to extend the life of my mixed gas - just the bulk gas I store for up to a year for power outages (premium with no alcohol, 5 gal metal cans, 2 oz sta-bil per can). I use the stabilized gas for the mix, but then use it up fairly quickly.

If you are buying good quality gas (in your/my area, Chevron Premium has no alcohol in it), and using it within 60 days, don't worry about adding anything to it (other than your mix oil!!)

Thanks, I think I'll switch to Sta-bil at a fraction of what I've been paying for B&S. It it is good to know that our local Chevron Premium is non alcohol. That is what I have been running based on a mechanic's advise.

I use the stabilzer for small 4 strokes sitting for the winter (JD lawn tractor, BCS rototiller, generator, etc that I've got a few bucks into) and a couple smaller chainsaws that don't get used as often as my bigger saws.

Why do you use metal gas cans here? Availability of the 5 gal size? More air tight?

I have often wondered about this as it seems like plastic cans avoid the risk of rust.

They are stronger and seal better (real gaskets and plugs). I don't have any probem with rust (15 years old now) - non-alcohol gas and inside storage though...Mine are the Blitz brand "jeep cans".
