I had posted a thread or two about my newest toy, my 075. I'm slowly rebuilding it, rings, gaskets, ect. got her all together yesterday, and it started kinda hard, and only ran with half choke. So, i thought i'd rebuild the carb....no problem i have rebuilt lots of saw carbs already, so i took a look. I checked the stihl 075 ipl that was so nicely given to me, it says this saw is supposed to have a tillotson hs 60-d. I took the carb off, it has an extra insulator block under it not on the ipl. what gives?? so i look at the carb, its a walbro. a ws26. great. hi and lo needles are only about 5/8 turn out haha, so i take it apart to find dirt, and that the hi speed screw seat is mushroomed. :angry2: this just made my day. i got about 120 bucks into the saw for rings, air filter, fuel filter, plug, many gaskets, 3 clutch shoes and 3 clutch springs, and some other misc parts, and i don't have a bar or chain yet. Now i am pretty sure i have to find a carb for it. I can take pics of this wierd setup tomorrow if i can get a chance. Has anyone ever ran across something this weird? And does anyone know if i can find the correct carb for a reasonable price? thanks -Nevin

Sounds like some 076 stuff found its way onto your saw. Where is the oil cap located? Does your recoil have an extra cover held on with 3 screws? What sort of hand guard does it have?

Both my 076s have Walbro carbs, don't know what #. And that extra intake block gives the 076 the taller air filter, which is sort of distinctive.

I am becoming more clueless as i look at more pictures of 075/076's. Here are some, hopefully someone knows what i have and what i should do about the carb issue. I think i may be able to have a picture taken of the high speed seat problem under a high power microscope.

since i posted the pics, what does everyone think? am i right to assume this is an 076 with an 075 filter cover? I would really like to get this squared away so i can go fire her up and cut some wood haha... by the way, when i tried starting it, being the noob i am, the one time i forgot to push in the comp release......i guess it thought it needed to teach me a lesson? lol it really screwed up my wrist though. any input would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Yeah, remember to use the decomp, if not, the saw will sometimes remind you...and not nicely either, as you found out.

Get it running and have some fun with that monster.
