I just bought a 100' ft roll of the 404 carlton chain from Bailey's today for $180.00. They told me it is the exact same chain as the woodland pro ripping but with a different top plate angle. I will have to regrind for my ripping chains but for a savings of $110 over the standard woodland pro ripping chain, I could not pass it up.

Just thought I would let the fellow sawyers know in case you have been thinking of buying some chain.

When I started milling, I anticipated using lots of chain and considered buying a reel and a breaker/spinner. As it turns out, a milling chain lasts a long time on clean softwood. I haven't come close to wearing out a milling chain yet.

But, if I were cutting urban wood, with embedded concrete, your reel of chain would come in handy.:biggrinbounce2:

Me neither. I put up over 700bd ft of softwood this year. Not alot maybe but not bad either considering I was recovering from a knee rebuild. Wish I had some hardwood but softwood is mainly what we have here. Milling chain from Baileys-holding up good so far...:)

I have used regular chain befor for ripping and did not notice much difference but that was when I first started milling. I think Bobl and others say that it increases washboarding on a slab.
