Gear Drive Mac?

I'm no MAC guy either, but as a Milwright looking at that side cover, with at least 8 bolts along the bottom and side kind of suggests a gearbox. Also the bar cover looks like the same configuration as a 090 G. Anyways for $61 it doesn't look like a bad deal. Mike

That's definitely a gear drive. The crank is pretty far away from the front of the bar cover. That in and of itself doesn't mean, but add it to the fact that the bar cover bolts on from the left side, and you have a gear drive. Not to mention the row of bolts jenson pointed out.

Those right-hand recoils are pretty silly. Every other saw I've ever seen is lefty. Didn't we see a Mac on Ebay awhile back with two recoils. Must be for super high compression. Get two people starting it at once. That sounds really dangerous.

Guys, I collect Mac saws & they actually had quite a few that were like this. I'll see if I can post some pics of my saws that were manufactured just like this one with Right Hand start. I think that they did this so that you could stand on the rest bar underneath of the engine while pulling on the cord with your right arm. Most of my saws have so much compression & are so heavy that you almost have to place the saw on the ground to start. The gear drive saws have so much torque that I have had an instance when i was demoing a gear drive saw at full throttle racing a guy with a big Husky saw & the chain broke, grabbed the 24 inch oak I was cutting & flipped me over the log, I'm about 6 foot tall & go around 245...
