i like to set my line real high with a throw ball and then tie one end to my saddle and the other to a rusty 1978 ford ranger. then i get the ground guy to gas it until i'm where i want to be. but i'm afraid one day he wont see me or be able to hear me yell and i'll get pulled over the limb and back onto the ground. do you guys think this is safe, or am i just plumb silly?

uuuuuuuhhhhhhh............ I've seen it done before, and have done it myself before,......but only a few times.
There's only a couple people i would trust enough to have in the truck that's for sure. A slight mis-communication could lead to you being 6 feet under. The only times i did it was when the job had to be done spikless. But i've since learned better and safer ways.

Doesn't sound silly to me. In fact if I was driving the truck I'd try to pull you through enough branches to knock the BS out of you. Why do you keep posting this crap?

It seems like it is very hard on the climbing line and the crotch it is running through so I set a pulley. Let me try to explain: Of course you all understand how to set a pulley in a tree from the ground and haul your life line up. Then I run the end that will go to the truck through another pulley at the base of the tree. Since both ends of the climbing line are running right next to each other I tie my climbing hitch. So if numbnuts gets cornfused: I can't be pulled over the crotch and I can't fall back the way I cam because of my friction hitch. Seems like a safe and logical way hmmm?
Its good for going over ivies and if you are real tired. Also if you only want to spike the part you want to remove but just have to tie in and set rigging in the part you are not. I came up with this myself, what do you think?
To anyone who says that using a truck to ascend is hack- stick it in your cornhole. It ain't. Not knowing how to do it right is, you hack.

a few of the posts lately have been outlandishly odd and this was my attempt to illustrate how crazy things can get. i can't say i didn't have fun doing it though. i was laughing my ass of when i did it and my wife said, "i thought you were really excited about the arborsite forum you found, why would you want to come off like a hack?" i just kept giggling, i couldn't help it.

treemandan: i agree that if you were to use this method, your system is the wisest, most logical way. there are a couple of problems, like: when you get to the top you could break the rope or limb if the truck doesn't stop. and i don't think the hitch is really necessary unless the truck suddenly goes in reverse at 60 MPH. but point taken. gear is fun to play with. plat at your own risk.

i was actually surprised more people didn't get involved in the thread considering all the bashing that tends to go on around here. remember folks, we can share our experiences without degrading other people. we should encourage and build up in conjunction with constructive criticism. when we bash, it serves only to fuel our ego @ other people's expense. rock on you fellow tree nuts!:rockn:
