I'm getting sick of packing up my two steel cores up trees...especially when I'm climbing up a skinny tree and I've got two 15 footers on me!.... So I'm looking at getting a double snap flip line...Any opinions on what works better, using the bi directional Klimair ascender or a prussik? I notice that the klimair only takes 1/2" flipline and I prefer 5/8"...but smoothness and ease up use is most important to me...

Hi Jak. I have an 18' steelcore, doublle ended with a steecore prussic. Works great for windfirming.

Hi Jak,

Been away from this forum a good long time.

Have the same set-up as clearance.

5/8 dia steelcore, steelcore prussic, swivelsnaps on all three ends. Weapon of choice in any branchy conifer.

Stripping a spar? Add a toy 'biner or dog snap to a micro-pully, presto, one-handed slack tending.

Never seen a Klimair, but a steelcore prussic is bomb-proof, and will last for years.

anyone have a link too a steelcore prussic or know where to buy one, all the websites and catalogs i have seen just have steelcore fliplines, no prussics it seems. my first thought is that these would be too stiff to grip but i imagine they must be a more pliable core than the fliplines are made of

Ditto...I was gonna order some gear from wesspur but didn't see any steelcore prussiks...where did you get yours clearance or redlineit?

I got mine at Pacific Arborist Suppy in North Van.

154 Riverside Drive, phone: (604) 929-4617. They also have downloadable catalogue (pdf) at pacificarborist.com (Big catalogue, slow server, have a coffee...and prices not listed)

My steelcore prussics are made by Yale Cordage, for flexibility they have two strand internal construction inside Yales XTC sheath.

They come specifically sized for use on a 1/2" or 5/8" lanyard, for my money the swivel snap is the only way to go if you want to use it double ended for quick moves up a branchy conifer.

Cheers,

My boss at the time got it for me from there as well. I met the owners years ago, good people, have heard nothing but good about them over the years. For climbing big trees that setup with the fat Yale 5/8 steelcore and the steel prussic work excellent.
