okay this is just what ive decided for myself.. the best way to know,, i got good compression is to put new sprocket an sharp chain .. put it in heavy cut for that particular saw.. if she holds up ,an cuts good without acting up.. compression is good,, as far as im concerned..
its a givun that there are other factors..
but thats how i do it.. im sure these fellas can give figures,, which i will be watching to see.. just my 2 cents worth.. good luck..

I usually first of all lift it up in the starter handel, if the engin turns, I set it back down.
If not, I turn the engin a few times, if that is OK, Itry and start it.
When it starts I get it normally hot then test again.
It is the farmers test, works most of the time.

I define good compression as no less than 120PSI, 155 or so, is pretty dang good. MY cutoff saw registered 200 when I tested it once.
