Hey All, Been out of tree work for a while, just getting back in. I'm looking to replace some of my old climbing gear. Does anyone know where I can get climbing gear in or around the California, East bay Area? Looking for a real store, not a website, so I can check it out before I buy.
Thanx

Drive 3 hours north on 101 to Laytonville, CA, Bailey's Woodsman Supplies.
Or just check at the top of the page for Sponsors that carry climbing gear. Shop around. Some offer free shipping. Welcome back to the tree care industry.

I know you said your looking for a local shop ,but if you can order from places like WesSpur, you can probably save some money.

If you need any 1/2" climbing line,I know a guy who is selling 120' lengths for $60. plus shipping.Let me know and I'll give you his number and website.

Hey Treetom,
3 hours away huh? Was hoping for something closer.
There used to be a place in South San Fran area... but I haven't been able to find it again. One of the things I need to replace is my saddle and I feel I need to try that on rather than order online.

Thanx for the input!

Hey Bruce,
Sure... shoot me the info.

You can look up on the internet to see where your nearest Vermeer dealer is. Many Vermeer dealers are also Sherrill dealers. It seems to be quite varied as to which dealers have a selection in stock and which ones just have a bare bones display at their location.

I'd also be interested in the info for the guy with cheap climb line :)

Whoa - treetom, tom cat and tomtrees all chimin' in on this one - I feel like there should be some kinda "tom" battle.

Too funny...

Mountainview is a lot closer.. I'll look into the Vermeer thing as well.

Many Thanx to bruce6670, Chewbacca and the Toms!

Buying a saddle in person is a good idea.I bought a new saddle last month
and it doesn't fit right.

Good luck.:)

That's exactly what I'm looking to avoid Bruce.
Have a good one!

what saddle you get?

Cougar.

I'm a 34" waist size so I ordered a medium.I was right in between sizes.I should have gotten a small.

I was going straight up about 40-45' the other day and it felt like it was going to slide up to my armpits.I'm on the last hole of the belt.

Couple of thoughts.

Why do people keep thinking cheap when they buy rope? It's your lifeline!

Trying a saddle on in the store isn't going to give you enough feedback to tell you how comfortable the saddle is going to be once your in a tree. My saddle (glide II)is super comfortable when your standing on the ground, it leaves alot to be desired once you are aloft. On the flip side, stand in a traverse on the ground and you'll think its complete junk, once in a tree though, its actually not bad.

I'd order a sequoia and be done with it, of the 10-15 saddles I've climbed in, its the most comfortable when considering price. The treemotion, was the best, the weaver single d non wideback was the worst.

I'll bite. I couldn't find any info on the elite ropes. Where can I check specs for them?

Thanks and god bless,

Jeff

It's a discontinued rope so it's not on the site.I called them to see if it was one of their ropes and they said they stopped making it a couple years ago.

I didn't ask for the specs.

Do you know if it has a core, and is spliceable? Any idea on strength?
Peace be with you.
