Here's what I paid within in the past year or two:

list/my cost

200 16" - 510/ 458
260pro 18" - 480/432
361 20" - 510/485
460 28" - 770/693

i cant get my Stihl dealer to give me anything off of list. most they will do is throw in a few extra chains. lucky you

In my experience, Stihl dealers don't ever knock anything off the price.

They can't.

The price is the price.

You might get a few chains, a case of bar oil, or a hat or something. . .

but the price is the price.

Anybody that tells you that THEIR Stihl deal sold them a $500 for $100 less than list is...

A. A liar

or

B. Buying their saws at a less than reputable location.

SAP..... Is that you?

a Craftsman 18" 40cc gas chainsaw goes for $150. that's 5cc's MORE than the STIHL 200T. you will be overpaying by $350 for less power !!!!!!
it's all brand naming and clever marketing on STIHL's part. the executives at STIHL are laughing at everyone. who do you think pays for all their sawing competitions, sponsorships, big trade show booths, and dealerships? it's all added to the saws cost.

You are kidding.................. Right?

I have the 192t and love it!!!! I don't do enough work to justify the 200,would love to have one, don't need it though. If I run across something that it wont handle, I get a larger saw out and move on. I think the 200, 361/357 equivelant and 440/372/7900 equivelent is a sure way to go!
Just my .02.

I just bought a 200T and an MS260 PRO about 2 years ago. The 260 Pro was a little over $500 with tax. The 200T with tax was about $550. I agree with everybody else on here about the 260 and the 361? They are too close. The 260 that I have IMO was a mistake. Check into a 250, not as big of a saw, but it's got a good track record. Or you could go with a 360 and then a 460. The 360 I think around here is something like $550+ before tax. The 460 would be around $800 plus tax.

seems to me, if you are purchasing one saw. dealer would probably stick to list.

but when purchasing three saws, one should expect a substantial discount. this could done via price discounts and/or freebies add-ons.

not true. i can buy STIHL products at 15% off of their already marked down prices. i bought a 200T for an nieve friend of mine 3 months ago for like $450 (i have the receipt to prove it). i told him to invest in 4 Craftsman saws instead, but he insisted on STIHL. 30 days later the 200T was sent to the shop for repairs...lol. the pull cord was jammed and needed replaced. i laughed and laughed. what's that saying?..."a fool and his money are soon parted."

no i'm not. you can buy 4 Craftsman and they will last longer and cut more wood than one STIHL for the same money.

when you're climbing with a chainsaw. what amount of $$ do you place on safety?

climbing with a chainsaw is dangerous at best. so climbing specific chainsaws like MS200T and 335xpt is worth the extra $$.

hey if you're happy with your craftman saw, great!
I've used both and I'll stick with Stihl and Huskies :D

just found a Husky 55 in a pawn shop. it is a 1998 model and seems to be in fairly good condition cosmetically. i did not open it up to look inside. they said they would take $160 for it out the door. not sure how it is mechanically. they said it started easy and ran well, but then again they are the ones selling it. the 55 is a mid range landowner saw right? are the specs close to the 455 Rancher??? seems like it might be a cheap, and temporary, alternative to the 260 Pro or 346XP.. any info, suggestions, comments?

I actually bought a husky 55 around 98 and I liked it. Used it mostly for ground work and around the chipper until I sold it to a new guy starting out who wanted a saw. He ran it hard for about a year with no problems. I liked the 262 and 42 special better around that time. Now days I have been climbing with the 357xp-too big for trims but I love them for removals.
