Oh so very nice. I'm hunting for one. There is a clean one on ebay now for way more than I'm willing to spend.

Not trying to hijack, but is it possible to rejug a 56 super with the magnum top without any other mods? I will admit I didn't search yet, this thread just got me thinking.

itd be tough.. you would need to clearance the case for the big piston, and the bolt spacing on the base is different too. you can find them rather cheap if they are ignition less, but that is their weakness. that and bearings.

Yes its a dual port... Never met a 56 mag that wasn't... Look on the PTO side of the cylinder.. The second port comes out way back there.. Once and a great while you will even see one with the deflector over it. Not sure what the purpose of it was? Nobody ever keeps them on.

Ed,
does that 056 have the "2-step" clutch cover with the nuts at 2 different heights? I just sent a huge box of 056mag stuff to axlr8 to build one for me... One of the clutch covers had a "step-up" on the clutch cover for the rear bar nut...

Also does that have a dual port like mojim has??? I don't think I ever got the chance to run his... Maybe this fall though...

That is a very nice saw, one of the cleanest i've seen!

It has a standard clutch cover. It's has a dual port. I think all the magnums did.

You can see the port above the "S" in Stihl.

The magnum mufflers definitely are different. The arm looking thing is the second port.
This muffler is off my other 056 Mag II I have torn down at the moment. I'm gonna port the one I'm rebuilding and compare the two.
I need to send the jug to Randy to have the squish cut.

The "snorkel" port on the Magnum muffler is longer than the one on the Super muffler and the cooling fins on the Magnum/Mag II cylinders are cast differently to reflect this. If a person wanted to put the Magnum muffler on a Super cylinder, they have to trim the cooling fins a bit.

huh,
so did the step down clutch covers only come on certain saws??? Also nice to see an OEM switch on/off switch on that saw. hard to find them around with the tall switch still intact.

I knew where that pipe was sticking out... I've worked on them before; my mistake was thinking the dual port was always the extra port on the muffler cover and not the rear tube... I sent 2-3 of those dual port mufflers to axlr8.

Speaking of which. HEY Nich! Could you post a pic of the step down clutch cover i sent you? I think some guys know what I'm talking about but more pics are always better.
