I don't climb on a regular basis so my last rope was couple years old. Wesspur had a pretty good deal on a 90' section of True Blue which is the brand I've been useing for quite a few years and most trees I do, the tie in
is under 45' so the length is fine. Anyway nothing special about this post, but it always feels like Christmas when I get a new rope, or carabiner. It looks so beautiful coiled up on the couch, I just can't stop staring at it. I had to share this experience, that's all. :)

True blue is my favorite rope for wear, durability and ease of use. I still use a safety snap on my ropes and use taunt line hitch and this rope works well for that.

I just bought a bunch of random lengths of colorful rope from Wespur: safety blue, double esterlon, stable braid. Yellow stable braid 9/16" is so pretty, for about two days, then all the yellow fades away. :(

bro, buy 150' of the fly, lay it on the couch and it would be like a honeymoon, forget x-mas. :)

I was gonna try a different line this time instead of trueblue and honestly I would of liked to got a 120 or 150' line because it would make me feel more secure on trees that are taller then my 90' section can do in one shot, but it all comes down to the almighty dollar and it just so happens that the last three ropes I've bought over the last 5 years have been sections of trueblue
on the clearance racks. One of these days I'll buy a longer rope and try what some of you guys have suggested, but until then I'm happy with what I got, and like I said I seldom do really tall trees. Yeah, your right though, 150' would feel like the first time. :D

dude, the fly is a 24 strand kernmantle, a different rope than the true blue.

I just grounded my 150' fly rope, (old age and nicks) and was given a new hank of true blue, a great rope, but I notice it trying to milk a lot.

anybody else notice this? I use a 8mm prussik cord & biner usually as a split tail.

I'm not familiar with the "fly". I have other kernmantle static 7/16 ropes I've used for repelling but don't know much about the fly.

The trueblue is real soft and moves around a bit. I've never used a hitch with a smaller cord on it so I can't say how it does with a 8mm but useing another piece of true blue for a hitch, you do have to tend it. The part I really like about trueblue is that it's soft which allows me to get a good grip on it when body thrusting. The other thing I like about it is that it's weight and flexible nature makes it seem easier to guide it to the ground when your re-routing it or getting it to the groundman to have him tie something on for you (if that makes much sense). Before switching to trueblue I've mostly used Arborplex, but did try a New England 16strand (I think) with a blue core and I liked it real well, except once dirty it was always hard to see in the tree and the center core milked out a little.

Yea the knots are bulky. I just never have learned how to splice and like you said the 12 strand trueblue is not spliceable.

I never learned to splice but do have a bud that does. I just buy the rope with a splice already there. I don't recommend spliced lines for newbies, they should be learning to tie the appropriate knots and they all too often nick/cut the rope with a handsaw.

I don't think True Blue can milk, it will go out of round though. I used to climb on it all the time but that was with a 3 in 1 or Blakes. With a 8mm prusik I could see where it would suck. The 8mm probably just strangles it into any old mangy shape it wants.

We like pictures of rope just as well as trees or saws!:greenchainsaw:

Yes, I bet you do:cheers:

The new 200 foot lowering line. You know, for light work and natural crotching.

Rope won't milk unless it has a core!

I think he was just useing the term "milking" to describe the loose feeling of the rope, not nessesarly that their is a core that is moving around inside the sheath.

We're a chip from the same stump. I bought another rope this early summer, split-tail and all,... and haven't even used it yet. Looks nice just sitting there looking new. LOL!

Looks good. What'r the specs on that rope? Thickness, abrasion resistance, etc? I chopped 30 feet off my Samson BRW last week and might be in the market for some new line.
