??? My JD/Efco CS52 ran just fine a few weeks ago. Tried to use it this weekend, no go. I've got spark - nice and blue. Piston looks good - shiniy & new, both through the exhaust port and looking down the spark plug hole. Spark plug is a nice brown. Fuel is less than two months old. Premium gas, running 40:1.

When I pull the handle I get some mix blowing out the decomp. It looks oily inside the chamber (as seen through the spark plug hole).

Thought I'd just flooded it, so I left it for an hour with the muffler off and the chamber exposed. Put it back together - still no go.

Compression seems good, though I don't have a guage to get a number. If I leave the decomp out, it's a tough pull. Sure passes the drop test.

Any ideas?

I would try fresh fuel, shelf life of gas is 3 to 4 weeks less if in the sun or a open (vented) container..

Not in the sun, but it's been pretty hot lately.

Sounds as though you may have flooded the beast. Quick way to find out is easy but you need 3 hands, lol. Put the start switch to start, do not choke at all. Have someone hold the throttle wide open while you crank the saw. If it sputters keep cranking, thats the sure sign its flooded. Keep cranking untill it slowly runs on it and comes up to speed. Then walk away from all the blue smoke it will spit out and your set to go. I've seen saws set for days flooded. The bottom of the engine gets so full of gas it will not clear out on its own, needs to be pushed out as I descibed to you using the 3 hand method. All your doing is forcing alot of air in the enigine without any fuel to clear out the flood.
If it starts send money to the Hall 880 fund, all pennies are welcome,:) :)

That makes sense - if it's in the bottom of the saw, it could sit a long time with the muffler off and the spark plug out and not make a bit of difference.

Still gettin' my head wrapped around two-strokes! :D

Y'know, for a simple employee, you aint' half bad! :D

Hey Tom, if I have to bring it in to you, Ultra says I can use your 660 until my JD is fixed.

He dead dead he, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Just for fun, take note of where your jets are sitting, and turn them as far as they will go closed and then open, if you still have the limiter caps. Then set them back where they were, and try it. Don't ask me why, but I had the same problem with three different saws that sat for over a month with fuel in them. It was 101 octane mixed 32 to 1, with stabilizer in it, so I didn't think it would hurt. When I got ready to use them, I drained the old fuel out, put fresh fuel in, and none of them would start. I ended up turning the jets in and resetting them. The problem was solved. ...Also, if you have long toes, you don't need three hands to crank and hold the throttle on.

Whats that Thall, you say you want some pennies???

If it didnt cost more to ship them then they are worth, Id give ya a nice little boost for your fund.

I HATE pennies!!!

If the decomp is out and it is so hard to pull that it almost breaks the cord and you have fuel coming out of the decomp and exhaust with every pull chack your tank vent and your metering valve.

Whats you address, Ill send them to you (you cover shipping) and then send them back to me with a notarized letter stating the correct number of pennies.:D

I'd give two cents to know if BlueRidgeMark got his saw going. Who do I send it to?
