I woke up to a dandy little ice storm! There are lots of busted up trees. First call came at 10 am. I did some "large" limb in my yard type jobs and a couple of "get these hangers over my drive, while your right here". Its all good. cash was king today! Best thing is a nice Insurance job for tomorrow. Good size maple on someones rental. No holes in the roof. Anybody else get any of this ice?

How much Ice?

well..depends on where u look.LOL..I havent heard an official amount. Most winshields had about 1/4 inch at the top and prolly an inch at the bottom. The windshield wipers on my trucks were totally encased in ice. And not just the blades. I mean the whole arm. Most of the limbs I saw had a nice coating, maybe a half inch is a close estimate. Tips of limbs that were about the size of a cue-tip were iced up to three or four times there normal size. I had to swing by my house first thing cuz I couldn't get the two tool boxes that face north open. My wifes hair dryer got me in pretty quick.

No ice here, heck of a windstorm Saturday though......$$$$$$$lot's of work for this week! $$$$$$$$$

wow, thanks to mother nature I went from having 3 or 4 "no rush" jobs to having prolly 3 weeks of work. All over the last few days. Plus we just got hit with 8 inches of snow with rather high winds and more snow through out today expected. Not looking like we will go out today unless a true emergency comes up. Its really crappy out. View attachment 173753View attachment 173754View attachment 173755

These pictures really dont tell the story. They are all I have taken the time to get and any pictures are better than no pictures at all...LOL

Ice storms are great work creators, and we usually have several each year, but only snow this winter. 80 degrees tomorrow, lol. Congrats on being 3 weeks out.

Congrats. Folks around here are glad to have missed a couple bullets this winter. They think I should be sad since it's good for biz. I tell them no, I'm happy for the trees and owners. When you've seen real devastation, it's a sad state of affairs. There is enough work out there without it. Although just enough damage to wake people up doesn't hurt from time to time. It's funny, and sorta sad, that it sometimes takes a few branches, or trees on the ground, or car, or house, before people pay attention to their trees....often too late by then.

Have fun!

I totally agree. About half of what I have looked at for bidding is people who are getting after that tree they been putting off. About 1/3 of my sold work is non storm damage right now. Those folks are likely to shop so I expect to hear back from some. This storm is mild as ice storms go and I am glad for same as you mentioned. This is just bad enough to send a wake up call to people. I did give one estimate for someone that I truely felt bad for.An older couple had a big pin oak that just twisted an snapped off about half way up. The whole top came crashing down across the back yard. Not to bad except the back yard was one of those with little brick paths and nice landscaping. There is a small man made pond and there (was) are 3 or 4 nice dogwoods. Also a medium size crimson king thats likely to be a goner. It was obv these people worked hard and took (take) pride in there yard and now its just tore up. Tree had a hollow spot in her. IDK if it was ignored or not. The thing that got me was that they can clearly afford the work...but cost wasnt the reason they were sad...... Its also very tough access, gonna be pricey no matter who gets that job.
