I'm the other way. I'm a trombone player, day job is public works, mostly heavy equipment operator. Drove truck for at least 15 years and never had a horn out of it's case. When the municipal job started, freed up some evenings. Play in a community band, as well as an associated brass quintet, 18 piece big band, 10 piece blues/rock band(Chicago, EWF, Blues bros, Motown stuff, etc.), and sub on occasion for a few other big bands and orchestras. Pit bands at the local community theatres too. Have done a little teaching on teh side to help a couple of kids get redy for auditions for university, none at the moment.
Some of this pays, but not enough to cover the gas bills for the rest. Couple of three big band gigs and maybe a couple or three with the blues'rock band every year. Seem to need a different horn for every group too! I've got more horns than saws (but the saws are gaining!)

7 to 3:30 day job plays hell with staying out late!!

I play for fun, wouldn't miss it for the world.

Sounds like you've got the same weather we do. Was out helping a nieghbor this morning in his bush, we gave up because it was too wet.

Sorry about the off topic guys!!!!!!!

I've only experience a major "WOW Factor" from 3 saws.

Stihl 066: pre EPA with opened up dual port muffler.

Dolmar PS5100C: Great power to weight ratio

Exactly, I sold my redlight special to a good friend for $175 after I got my second old 066.....It is my only bone stock saw....and, according to Ken Dunn, is one of the best stock saws ever made, thanks to the agressive ignition timing and dual port muffler.

Other wow factors were years ago, when I got a 10 lb Jonsy 520SP, along with the Partner 500/5000, the first of the high power, lightweight 3 cube saws....

Of course all my modded saws are impressive, but that's to be expected. My 5100 is on the way from Ed Heard, and I think it is the first ever modded 5100. It nay make me forget my first modded 346, which seemed to have larger performance gains over stock than any other saw. Ed also did one of them as well, and it is in transit too. Gonna put a ring in the old Greffardized one and anything else it needs and sell it to a bud for $150. I got it over 3 years ago from Gypologger on ebay for about $325....it's made me a lot o' dough!! Here's a pic of it and the Walkerized 372 that I also scored on ebay for $400-from Llamabert again, as they looked 3 1/2 yrs ago.

458 lott,
Get the dual port on it, it makes a difference. Go to EHP's forum on this site, go to saw videos, go to page 31 post #461 is bone stock, post 460 is with the dual port. If you really want to see what it will do go to page 32 post #471.

Thanks Trussman. I will do just that. Just got off the blower with my dealer. I asked him about a different set of bucking spikes (this was on Saturday). He said he would call Stihl and then call me. YEEGADS! They called me at noon and said I would need a different bar cover (huh, mine is drilled for another dawg), the spikes themselves and two bolts at $2.51 a piece. Who's zoomin' who. The clutch cover (bar cover) at about $50 or so, $13.50 for the outside dawg, and $5.02 for bolts. What the *#@%&$! Can't I just get a set from Madsen's for $21.00 and shipping? I think I can unless there is something I don't know. Can get a full-wrap handlebar also (says it's U.S. made) for about $50 from Madsen's also.

Yes, the handlebars from Madsen's are the USA Handlebars brand, and I think they're made up my way in Seattle. I've owned three sets, and currently have one on my 460, and one on my 361. They're pretty nice. As far as the dogs and the clutch cover, I'm not sure off the top of my head. But check ebay. There's always dogs on there for sale, and you'll see various clutch covers as well. I say buy the dogs, if they fit, great. If not, start looking for a clutch cover as well. That said, I'm a big fan of the larger, flared clutch cover you'll find on the full wrap 44/46/66's. I think it looks better, as well as keeping stuff from flying out the side so easily when you have your saw cutting clutch up. Here's a pic of my 361 with a USA Handlebar from Madsen's and a larger clutch cover I robbed from a 660 and modded to fit.

fishhuntcutwood, reddog,

Doggone, you guys did it again. Don't know what I would do without all you guys and your expertise and experience screwing around with saws. I never thought about all of the crap flying out of the bar cover when the clutch side was facing the great wide open sky (just made that part up, about the great wide open sky), but seems like a good idea to have more space with the pregnant type bar cover. Reddog makes a good point about just going with the stock one and maybe look for one on dookie-bay later. I like the looks of the dawgs on Madsen's site and your 361 with the full wrap looks like a serious saw should look. I admit, here on the east coast, I don't get into the thick barked stuff you guys get into, but hey, it looks cool and you need that. I know I am not getting the Stihl full wrap handle bar and I know I am not getting their bucking spikes, and I am not ordering a new bar cover either. I may be crazy, but I ain't stupid. (Actually been called both) Oh well.
