Not the drinking kind of bar, but the cutting kind of bar for both my Jonsered 2050 Turbo and my Echo CS-510. I want to use the same .325 x .058 chain on both of them.

The Oregon book is sort of confusing, but it looks like the Oregon K095 bar might fit both
of these saws. The K095 is listed to fit the Jons.
2050 and shouldn't it fit the CS-510 with a
.325 sprocket as well? I say that because the K041 bar is listed to fit
them both, but that bar only uses a .325 x .050 chain and
I want to use .325 x .058 chain.

Any bar experts out there?

Thanks...

Brian,

Just guessing but it may be the fact that he may have a bunch of .058 chain. That is why I run .058. When all the chain is gone I will switch over but why not use up the chain. I will asssure you my 3120XP spins my 16" .058 chains fine. Granted it is slow at 9000 rpm but the power is still there. I currently have about 55 new 16" and 20" ones to use up so it will be awhile before I switch over.

I use .058 chain because that's what the 2050 came with, but in thinking it over I could phase that size out and go over to .050 chain as it does seem more common. Then all my saws (Stihl, Jonsered, and Echo) would use the same size .050 chain. In the long run that would be a better thing, esp. if I start making my own loops.

So .058 chain is the dog of the industry...how come?

Popular chain gauge seems to follow peculiar demographics. Around here, what we call Central NY, small Stihls come outfitted with .063 chain, big Stihls carry .050. Jonsereds and Husky almost always have .058 while the rest of the brands in the local chainsaw world run .050, with the exception of the smallest Stihls which run .043. Go figure?

From what I understand there is some historical or regional aspect to Elux saws running .058 chain, which is the same as .050 chain but the drive links haven`t been coined as severely. Same sort of historical context for Stihls running .063 gauge but the irony seems to be that only the small saws come equiped with it until you get over 30" on the bigger Stihls. Seems like some sort of outdated protectionist behavior.

.063 chain does have beefier tie straps and drive tangs from what I remember but it also has a greater inertia to overcome when you rev it up. Teeth may even be wider. I only run it on longer bars like a 34" or 36" that doesn`t get used much. I`ll have to mic some later today when I get a chance.

Very interesting point Mike. Now I`m wondering if I have any old .063 laying around to see how it compares. See if anything changed.
