Wouldnt wrapping a branch around another girdle it and kill it??

Unrelated but kinda along the line , I saw a wild cherry growing dead center of a mulberry , it seemed that the cherry was there first and the faster growing mulberry basically overtook it completely and they were both healthy and growing fine

Topping pecan trees

I got a call from a guy that wanted me to top a bunch of pecan trees for him. I proceeded to tell him all the dangers of topping and explained alternative pruning options. He insisted they must be topped. I told him I couldn't do it and he would have to get someone else. Then, he explained to me that the pecans were no longer desirable, and that he would be grafting on another pecan variety to the places he wanted topped. I went along with it and was able to participate in some of the grafting. They are growing now.
