My new GRCS arrived at my doorstep last week, I want to thank JPS for hooking me up with it, thanks.

After using it for the first time, I was kicking myself for not buying one the day they became available. I like the fact you can pre-tension the line before the cut and make one straight cut through the piece.

Our Friday job was to remove six Red alders overhanging our customers neighbors house/fence. The trees were on top of a slope leading down to a landscaped area. We set a block in a nearby Doug-fir and started with the largest alder (24" DBH, 50-60' tall). The Winch allowed us to tip tie and lift the pieces without removing any limbs, and had the tree done with only three cuts. I set the line in the other alders from the ground with a throwline and cut them in one piece.

The device has already saved us a couple hours. I'm very impressed. Thanks again John.

The attached picture is of two Doug-fir removals we did the first day we used the winch. The line was pre-tensioned so the piece is just popping off. A tagline is attached to pull the pieces over the landscaped area below.

Hey Lenny,

Welcome to ASite!!! Well, a belated welcome anyhow...I see your first post was 13 months ago!! Have you been to the Buzz and seen the TreeHouse pics and stories?

Congrats on the GRCS purchase! I have a Hobbs which is adequate for most stuff around here. And I use a Simpson winch for quick picking...have modified it so direction can be reversed to allow for lowering also....but it is awkward to use.

Well I can se if you can get your Hobbs second hand and you have the third guy to end rope....maybe it is worth it;)

Glad to hear there is another happy owner.

Next jamboree volenteer its use for climber belay or hoisting the AR dumby

There us a bit that can be put into a drill to speed up winch operations and the truck mount for classIII receptical that was used at the Thee House Project.

Anyone else with questions regarding The Winch, feel free to contact me.

Hey Roger. Thanks for the welcome.

I've seen some of Treehouse Project pictures. Most of my pictures with my outdated digital camera came out pretty dark.

On our way home we managed to get a break in the weather. We stopped and climbed this gnarly monster off the side of the road. Picture attached.

Not exactly sure on the DBH, but measured 313' tall.
