I've searched the forum and haven't quite come up with an answer to this:
Can I put a low-kickback chain on a yellow bar? Or do I need to buy the combo?

There is a slight risk of explosion, but that is fairly rare.............
How about a purple chain on a blue bar? Is that OK too?
Good, thank you...but if the gauges are different..then no set of chaps will keep my legs connected?opcorn:
Depends - if the chain gauge is larger than that of the bar groove, then your risk of even needing the chaps is minimal...
Man, Im in trouble. All my bars are grey, and my chains are black with shiny parts, Im sooooo confused.......

For safety's sake, everyone should run their green or yellow bar without chains for a while. When you get pretty good at cutting timber with no chain, then move up to the green chain and then the yellow.
This will allow you to work into the nonsafety chain slowly and minimalize the traumatic differences in green vs. yellow.
Please post pics of the first log you cut without a chain on your saw. This will validate your training and allow you to move to the next level.

And for pete's sake make sure the saw is broken in properly, as well as never hold the saw longer than you have to without the bar touching wood at wide open throtle!!
