Y'all gotta remember that $12-15/hr is in canuck bucks probably. But I don't blame him for firing them. I don't work in the industry except cut firewood for myself, but in my driving job, if I gave that many lame excuses and didn't want to work, it wouldn't take too long before I'd have my can sitting outside UNEMPLOYED and I make a fair bit less than your groundies.

Actually we are in Seattle Region in Washington State USA.... Cost of living is higher here and I am trying to pay more to increase the industry standards. My climbers make $18-$25 depending on experience. This region is charging from low $200/hr to high $450/hr in Residential.

Jumper what are the normall rates for a climber in your area,I live in barrie & am wondering what to pay a good climber,I have been currently paying $15.00 per hour but have to replace my climber this year, I have a couple of guys that have applied & are telling me that in Toronto they are making between $25.00-$30.00 per hour

I think are few are getting the figure you quote, but most would be in the $20-$25 per hour range. I know the Region pays that for city workers, and that is usually top end. I have seen figures as low as $16-$18 on the www.jobbank.gc.ca site, but I can not imagine any company hanging onto anyone too long when they pay peanuts. I am a little familiar with prices in Barrie, and would think you would be looking at $20 as a place to start.

Holy cheap batman, Jumper, Rocko, I was once out in that province, Ontario, specifically the center of the universe, Toronto, working as a laborer for a roadbuilding company. It was pretty tough work, running a big air jackhammer, placing concrete for curbs and sidewalks, It was a union job, I was 19. It paid $15.75 hr + 10% vacation pay. This was back in 1987, beer cost a little over $10 for a 12pack of Canadian, to put it in perspective. Almost 20 years ago

I think that was why I was alluding to the fact that tree services do not hold onto groundsmen very long at what they offer here, and then wonder why....? My dope smoking ex colleague went to work as a roofer at $14 an hour to start-why would one stick around for $10 that got paid sporadically?
