Does anybody worry about the grub worm that is always seen in red oak making canals. I mean, are they like termites will they destroy your house. I have always wonderd about this and any input would be nice. I always see them in hickory to.

Shoot!!!! Another thread I've been meaning to start for lack of pictures!!!

I've got them in Oaks, even see them in the acorns...but also in a stump of Fir (and another wood I got of unknown species).. A huge foor foot wide Fir stump of which I've dug out a grub the diameter and length of my middle finger. The pincher-like jaws will latch onto something and not let go even when beheaded.

Been meaning to post a pic to ask where they start? Do they molt into something else? They're white with a wide head and tapered and convoluted body to a small tail. No eyes, only those constantly working mandibles!!

I imagine they're good eating, once I get up the nerve!!!

Curiosity got me on this one all about the grub

Goooogle it

I don't know the real name, but we used them for bait(trout fishing) and called them woodsawyers. Most that I've seen were 3" or less.

What I know as grubworms can be found under the sod in my yard as well as in wood. They aren't nearly as firm as the critter above, and are darker towards the tail end.

There is yet another that I've seen, and its even more firm, more slender and smoother. It almost appears to have a stinger on the tail end. We would find these in old sawdust piles and such.

Trout go nuts for 'em.

Holy Cow that's the biggest grub I've ever seen...and that came out of a split? We have grubs in split wood that are at the most a inch or less...but they disappear after a week or so.

Pop them beggars in your mouth. After the first one its much easier because you now know how good they is. Good for you too. esp your lobido. :)

I just don't think I can get that hungry.

I might have missed a few things while I was married but a meal wasn't one of them. I eat as good now and miss less that the idea of eating a bug to improve things just isn't that appealing.

Tell her what you just ate before you try to kiss her and I bet it won't matter what your libido is saying she won't let you close to her.

I guess what she don't know won't hurt her. :hmm3grin2orange:
