notice it's the only one that's not cut into the wood.
looks like someone stuck it into the dirt.
ohye, do those chains come multicolored from the store?
I also have a saw that is used for the sole purpose of training noobs.

Yeah, he must "prefer" Craftsman--that's why there are four times as many Huskies in the picture.

i suspect the Craftsman is the one saw kept for the tough trees. i do the same thing and keep one special saw on the side to close the deal... kinda like a relief pitcher.

Over the years, Craftsman's have been made by various saw mfr's...of late, none of the current models are anything but cheap homeowner saws. Mine is a Solo 651SP, a very good saw...and it has been fully woods modded. It's a good saw, but it lags all my other 3 cube saws in power----Shindaiwa, Dolmar, and Husqvarna. However, if it were the more pro model 651 (non SP), it would likely give them all a run for their money.

I don't use the saw, and may sell it...still one more part to replace....

Also, I was in Sears recently, and, if I recall correctly, saw a couple cheapo Homelites or Poulans, maybe a couple Craftsmans that were prolly Poulans, and a couple Husqvarnas. Of course the Huskys were the only ones worth buying....

what's your opinion on Shindaiwa saws? my local dealer sells them alongside STIHLs and claims they're just as good.

My 488 is a pro saw, light and well built. None of their bigger saws rate as high in their size classes. Nor do they have modern features like side access chain tensioners. Frankly, most mfr's make good saws. Most homeowner saws are OK, except the throw away Homelites and Poulan Wild Things....don't know anything about the Crapsmans you buy..they could be about as good as the low end small Stihls and Huskys, but I doubt it.

I have an old Craftsman (poulan) from about 1984 - I bought i tnew, and I still run the thing. It is a pretty decent saw with great power for its size, but it will probably not hold up against a pro Husky or Stihl...

Love it all the same!

The newer Craftsman badged units seem to be the cheap throw away stuff, and I guess if it works for you what the heck - on the other hand I seriously believe anyone would be more productive with a pro saw, so why run a toy if you are serious?
