I have a hackberry tree that needs to come out... trunk is hollow and rotting... Had a guy come take a couple limbs from the top to get some weight out of it and he is STRONGLY urging me to take this out... Got a second opinion from a large reputable outfit in town and they agreed for the most part, said there was a moderately high risk of trunk failure... Will this make good firewood? I hear its kinda stringy and hard to split... thoughts here? Thanks, Mark

Thoughts are what targets does it threaten? Its semi fair firewood not great wood just so so.

My bedroom primarily... would definitely come down and hit the house... given all the assessments I have received on it its on its way out... would rather drop it before before mother nature does it for me in a less than considerate way... just wondering if the wood is worth splitting and stacking for the stove. never burned it before - that I know of

When I burn hackberry its before it gets real cold it burns just not as good as oak, hickory ash! It leaves a lot of ash in your pan but it burns and for free I'd burn it! I sell wood and would not sell it because it is not premium wood! I hope you can understand what I mean by this!
