I was switching over in a free hang from a Basic Ascender to a figure 8 and as I was leaning over my $%*#& beard got caught in the figure 8, I just through on a Right ascender with a footloop to take the weight off, but man it hurt, and the neighbors learned some new verbage....anyone else have this happen?

not had that happen.....but i climb with a v.t and have it and the end line on 2 seperate krabs.....i have on occassion nipped my nipple bar between the 2....i'd say thats gotta be equally as painful!:jawdrop:

When I used to use the taut-line hitch I was got my hair caught in it about 10 feet from the ground. All my weight on it..
It hurt so bad I tried to pull my hair out as hard as I could and it wouldn't go.
So I had to pull my weight of the line with one hand and untie the knot with the other, and do a fast burn to the ground.
One thing that was good about TLH knots. In a pinch you could tie/untie with one hand.

I have dreadlocks and a full beard. At times when mowing under trees I'll get caught up and about dragged off the mower. That and dip my dreads in the paint can by mistake. Some guy grabbed one yesterday because he thought it was a small rope around my neck.
A friend with a long beard had a belt sander grab his beard and come up and punch him in the jaw. He had to drive home with it stuck to his face. His first words to the little lady were, "Don't even start laughing."

In High School i saw a guy have to get his hair cut free from a drill press; also saw what an auger drive can do to a calf...

With those images firmly in mind; i've always considered rope running through 8's, pulleys, Porty's, muenters etc. as open machinery that could grab and get ya; especially loose clothing, hair, ornaments, fingers etc.

i had long hair caught in a tautline, too embarrased to call for a knife i yanked it free painfully, but the beard, ouch....

I was taking a bunch of people abseiling when a rather well structured scottish woman, half way down, got her breast stuck in the figure eight. Took a while to figure out what she was trying to scream to us!

I tie my hair back or just shove it all the back of the helmet when i'm climbing, keeps it out the way. I've caught it once in the blakes hitch and learnt from my lesson.

holes in my shirt

yeah dude, I bought a Buckingham traverse saddle about 3 years ago that may be just a hair too big- I use a locking carabiner for a sliding d and when I turn to the way left or right my shirt sometimes gets cought in the ****** and the saddle...many of my shirts have these funny holes right at the nipple, which has gotten caught in there before too...not to mention all of my weight is going into it....I wonder which hurts more, the nip or the beard?

i had pine sap nearly glue my eye lashes together.
