Just brought home my new husky. Very happy with the performance. It seems to have a little more power than the 029 stihl I'm replacing it with. The biggest difference is how it handles. A lot lighter and smoother. For the 8 to 10 cords I cut a year it will be a welcome upgrade. This is my first Husky. Started with an old mccullac(sp) 610, then to a stihl 042, then my 029. Seems as I get older my saws keep getting smaller. Still have the 048 for cutting the big stuff. This is my first post and I can't believe how much information is posted on this site. Didn't know what to get when my 029 died and ran across this site. Lot's of good info that steered me toward the Husky. Thanks.

Welcome glad to hear that you like your saw...

Dont listen to sawinredneck..He will never be happy with any saw.. His 346xp just got an update and its only been alive for a short time..

Enjoy the site..

Welcome to AS:D

As of ye, I have not been all that happy with my choice on the 346, but I think that will change come tomorrow:hmm3grin2orange:

Sit back, and enjoy the entertainment, and hold on tight to you're wallet:biggrinbounce2:

Welcome.
The 346 is my "go to" saw.
better start stashing money in your mattress though, pretty soon you'll need a saw in every class, from a top handle Stihl 200t up to a Husky 3120.
After a while, that will be fun, but you will want to pick up some of the "old classic saws" Maybe a Mac, or a Homelite. These will be project saws.
Then you will begin modding your newer saws for performance.
You see, you have caught the virus.

farmermike, nice choice in saw! I don't know how much gas you've got through it yet, but they really pick up power during break-in. Brand new I thought it was a little low on torque but no complaints now for a ~10.6lb 45 cube saw.

The other day I had the 20"/21LP combo and it was happy buried in a decent size hophornbeam ("ironwood" locally) stump. There's better tools for that task, but it worked.

well you will be buying heavier saws now

faster stronger. all different brands.. You will be buying a Dolmar 5100S ..This site is like woodstock.. its in the air.. LOL . I came here to ask a question. I now own two additional chainsaws, and ordered a new grinder. and I am pretty good with a file.. Why oh why?
welcome on board

Farmermike, Welcome to AS, And please give us a update on the new
saw. I have been eyeball'in one of those.

346xp

I had a 346xp and liked it enough. Sent it out to get a woods port, and I like it MUCH better now. I would say that it cuts like a stock 357xp that I used to have (someone needed it more than I did so they borrowed it permanently). and feels a couple pounds lighter. I use the arbor pro bars and the 20NK windsor chain from baileys (18"). If I had it to do over I would have gotten a 16".

thanks for the replies

Finally got it out in woods to give it a workout. Only on my second tank of gas. Sure is smooth. Cut a load of red elm with it and am very happy. The guy I bought it from has one for himself and he has his pick of any Husky he wants. He told take it home cut a load and if I didn't like it bring it back. Sounded good to me, dont' think I'll take it back! Has an 18 in bar with full chisel chain I believe. After looking at this site it seems as I'm completly ignorant as to all the different chains available for my saw. Probably wait awhile to do the muffer mod, but will run premium gas from now on. As far as old saws go, I do have an old sears that my father inlaw had in the shed, might try and get it going this winter. One final question? My buddy has an old model 61 Husky. How many horsepower are these? He bought it about 20 years ago and it's still on the original chain!!!! Told me to take and use it. Had it running and it runs out smooth. Again thanks for all the help and info.

welcome!

Welcome to Husky!I know the age thing!I have a 362xpg which is my favorite.Seems heavy until I start cutting. The wood chips are like Advil!NO more pain, can go on for hours! But when I stop....

Check out this site. I've got a 61 also. Mine doesn't like to idle for too long. Other than that, it's a workhorse and lot's of people here have one. Good choice on the 346xp. It might be my next saw.

It will be my next saw. I just ordered the XPG model today. Hopefully the warehouse has one and I'll have it next week. Update on the Husky, a little tweaking with the carb and a tankful of high test, and it's idling nicely now.

The 346 xp was originally concieved as a limbing/light felling saw with a 13" bar, I believe, but its service record tells that it is a lot more versatile than that.....:rockn:

That's pretty much what I want it for. I've got acres of dense spruce which I'm working on cleaning up and cutting trails through. After a weekend of slinging the 61 and 441 up and down the trunks, I decided it was time to get something a little lighter. I've got a Stihl polesaw which works for this, but after a while the vibration gets to me. Plus, if my hands get cold running the other saws, I'll just fire this baby up.
I haven't decided whether to get the 16" or 18" bar.

That is a real nice saw at at real nice weight!Do the resident experts reccomend narrow kerf or say stihl RS in .325 for optimal cutting on that saw?
I too am impressed with the power on my first Husky, a 357. I am still trying to find something on the air filter, too.

Thought I'd give an update of my saw. Cut about five cord with it so far. The more I use it the more I like it. I still can't get over how smooth it is. I run about ten tanks of gas through it and it is really loosening up. For it's size and weight it is an awesome saw. For what I use it for I think it's just about perfect. I still have yet to find anything in the air filter, which compared to my stihl, is a miracle in and of itself. Starts easy and uses about half as much gas as my 029. Running the synthetic oil and premium gas. Will do the muffler mod as soon as the warranty runs out. I do have visions of how nice a 372xp would be for cutting the big wood, but that's the fault of the board members here for putting the bug in my ear! To sum it up, I think I am a husky convert. Very impressed so far.

To keep the 346xp as nimble as possible, I sure would take the 16" bar, not the 18".
The 13" I mentioned is too short imo.....

Narrow kerf bar and chain (Oregon 95VP/Husky H30) is standard here, and works real well....;)

Thanks. I was thinking along the same lines too.
