I have a large head, size 8 ball cap. I am in the market for a new hard hat for when I am wood cutting. Tell me what you know about plus-size hard hats, god help me they even make such a thing?

Cheers,

El Quachito

I wear a 7 and 3/4 ball cap and normal hard hats have always fit me just fine. There's enough adjustment for me but those were just dirt cheap hardhats that the boss supplied. Have you had problems in the past?

I also wear a 8 baseball cap and have no problems with hard hats. A good Stihl hard hat, either cap or full brim style, has plenty of adjustment. Good safety purchase, I have one cap with face screen and ear muffs, was a pain at first, but I like it now. Ear muffs help hold hat on when you bend over to pick up the wedge you just dropped.

I am also blessed with a thick skull, I find the plastic hats adjust well to my large misshaped head, aluminum hats on the other hand seem to be made for the little head guy. The last few hats I bought were on sale at a welding supply store for around $5 a piece.

Conney Saftey.com or Baileys.com carrys full brim hard hats that you may be interested in. I'm not sure if your looking for a full brim or a lumberjack system hardhat ?

Like some of the others I am blessed with a head like Charlie Browns. Stihl helmet fits me fine also picked up a Forrester helmet that fits nicely. Ear muffs don't flip up like the Stihl ones but seem to give a tighter fit around the ear.

Watching that video is the reason I keep a hard hat in my truck, so I never forget one at home and go cutting without. We make fun because he is ok, but I personally have learned a lesson, I would rather have Brad remind me to wear a hard hat than God.

Thanks to all.

I am looking for full brim. Some 10-year-old Mac T's I tried on are too small, I have a 3M Omega II and it fits, best with a haircut though. Problem is it falls off way to easy, I think. I look up when I am dropping a tree and it falls off.

Update:

Purchased a Stihl "Forestry" model helmet w/ muffs and a screen. Fits my big head with room to spare so I can cinch it down for a proper fit. I have not cut in it yet, but its quality and made in the USA.

For my old hard hat I was able to expand the liner by moving the back "strap" down one notch and it will at least stay on my head. I should also report that the Texas American Safety Co. has a website with lots o' hats.

I have one of those and it has been excellent, but man are they expensive! Mine is about to expire (every five years), so I'm thinking about either a Husky or Rockman. Luckily I don't have the problem that you guys have, little head (7 3/8) for guy my size.
