Had a pretty large poplar that I planned to drop today. It had a neutral lean for the most part but it was windy today and I didn't want to take a chance. Chucked a rope in the first crotch and tied it to the winch on the Rover. Running the winch is my wife's job while I cut.

Something about a 8000# winch that puts a tree where you want it every time.

Cool pics woodsrover!
Watch it if your bucking near that scar in the bottom pic, looks almost like someone had a rope or cable on that at one time, I've found fencing, rope, and cable in treetrunks/branches that look suspiciously similar. Just a thought ta be aware of.
Good job!

Thanks, Serge. This land was pasture 100 years ago and it's not uncommon to find a piece of steel in some of these trees. That scar, however, is from a pretty good crack in the tree. The center was full of carpenter ants too.

I've cut a fair number of pretty large trees away from the house and this isn't the first time I've used the winch. Better safe than sorry and I'd rather take an extra 1/2 hour rigging line than posting pictures on this site of a tree through my roof!

Nice job!
Good pics!
That winch cable really gives a guy a good feeling when the fall is a little "iffy".

Oh, trust me...They rust! The outer skin may not, but everything else underneath does.

Thats true but every thing can be replaced with a American drive train but it is a lot of work as a friend of mine restores them, and some he likes to ''hot rod'' nothing like one with a Buick V6 and tubo lol. I would of gave you a rep but outa bullets!

Well, that one's been rebuilt starting with a new galvinized frame. It's got Toyota center diffs and a Mercedes diesel too.

Who's your friend that works on them? I'm sure I know him.
