I'd like a CS-1201 Echo my own self. They're no longer being manufactured and up until the end of last year, they were advertised on the echo japan website. Another saw I'd like to find is the Alpina Pro Forest 90.;)

The 056 that my uncle loaned to one of his ex employees has been pretty hard to find, he said I could have it if I did find it though so I will.

great saw

personaly i think the cs1201 never got the respect it deserved so i dont think they sold alot of them

A plane ride to Japan or Singapore will get you a CS-1201 or a CS-60s, they just won't ship one to the USA. But you may have to tear it apart to get it into the US as "parts". I got lots of letters from the Echo motherland on saws not avail in the USA. Some below...Bob

Hi Bob,

We are the Echo distributors in Singapore and Malaysia. We do sell Echo CS-60S.

Please advise where is your location, your detailed address and country.

Best regards

Corporate Marketing Manager

Mr. Wright,

Your e-mail was forwarded by our distributor in Singapore to Echo, Incorporated (USA). The CS-60S is not available in the United States. Specifications and certifications in the U.S. are different for countries outside the United States. All products available in the U.S. must meet government regulations and state requirements.
Retailers could encounter severe liability issues if Echo products are sold outside the U.S. or do not meet state requirements in the U.S. The CS-60S was last available in the U.S. in 1983, and can no longer be purchased through Echo or a retailer outside the U.S.

If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact Echo's Consumer Support Department at 1800-673-1558.

Sincerely,

Betty Nava

how about a decent 048 stihl? not many out there for sale, and parts, at least aftermarket, are more rare than most saws.

hmm, you got a link? all I found was a NOS 048 jug, and curt bailey has the piston and rings.

They are indeed pretty rare. I know chris aka cbfarmall has a real nice 048. I remember someone telling me that stihl experimented with a different cylinder lining on the 042 or 048 (can't remember which) and there were issues with it.

Those are the two, plus what's his name in Evert Washington [cheap stihl parts]has a piston.Curt has a much better price as he usually does. The guy in Washington buys about every 048 the comes up for auction. He must be using a bidding service because it's real tough trying to snipe him.

cool, thanks Al. was wondering if I wasn't doing something right over there.
looks like the 038 and 048 use the same piston, just a longer stroke on the 048.
hmm, since you have them, whats the diff between the 48 and the 48 super?
will a reg only 048 jug fit on a 042? did they make a 048 mag that only accepts the mag jug bolt pattern? that could get fun if that jug on ebay was a mag and the 042 wouldn't accept it....

Actually, I have a real nice 042, but I do have an 048 that was a victim of the silver paint can explosion of 2006. It ought to clean up nice. One thing I notice is that 042/048 plastic seems to fade very badly compared to other Stihls of the time. I have no idea why.

As far as I know ,the only thing different about an 042 and an 048 is the cylinder and piston.Perhaps the plastic but that isn't a big deal. The 042 is a 49 mm bore the 048 is 52 .The 038 is 48 mm bore the 038 mag is 52 but I don't think it's the same piston ,could be though..My parts book covers the 038,042 and 048 but not the 038 Mag I or Mag II.I never heard of an 048 Mag.

The 042 is 68 cc while the 048 is 76.7 I believe.I heard where the HP was around 5 and half for the 042 and a tad over 6 for the 048 but I can't find it anywhere to verify it.
