When you guys get to a job with multiple trees to work on, which would you rather do the hardest one first or last?

I find that I get stuck doing the hardest ones last, because the easier ones have to be removed in order to make room for the hard one.

i tend to save the worst for some where in the middle or towards the end, this way i'm warmed up and don't have alot on my plate when i'm tired.

i'll always try and get something on the ground fast (on multiple tree jobs) so the ground crew could get started. lay out of the job may also dictate the order. you might start at the longest drag for the ground crew.....or if its a narrow side yard you start closest to the truck and work your way back so they don't have to walk under you.

don't take breaks in between tree's. coil your rope have your saw gassed and head up the next tree.

a few weeks ago i had 7 monster oaks to prune. i had 4 done before i even stopped for water. a 10 min break in between tree's would have made my day an hour and 10 min longer.

hardest tree / first or last

As in your post alot of the time the job makes the choice for you . I'd love to get the monster task out of the way first but many times you need the others done first for room in the lz.As a rule I get the tough stuff done first when your fresh and the rest
you can coast, or at least your tough stuff is out of the way.

I do the worst first, most of the time.

I try to get the worst one first, rather than put it off til the end of the job when I just want to wrap things up, get paid, and move on.

I forgot about that, the furthest from the truck is good too. All depends on the job I guess. So many variables.

I usually start closest to the truck and work away. That way I'm not dropping limbs on the groundies heads as they are dragging brush by. Then rake towards the truck.

Hardest or furthest from the truck first usually.- Sometimes I'll warm up on the littlest then do the hardest.

depends on crew size. my crew always has multiple climbers(even if it is just 2 of us)
with mutiple climbers most of the work can happen at the same time.
ive noticed that after lunch desire for large complicated removals goes down while the heat goes up...so do hardest first i say.

I do the furthest from the truck and sometimes as is often the case the biggest/hardest tree is done last, that way all climbers and groundmen are on duty for the work ahead. I like every evolution to be 95% complete before the next one is started. once chunks are being pushed or rigged off the dz had better have nothing in it but the guy working the hole, sawdust, and wood.

It depends. I like to have something on the ground for the groundsmen to do. If i need the room in the LZ room i will open it up first.

If there is a hard tree and several easier ones i will do an easier one first, then the hard one, take lunch, and then do the rest.

Situation is always gonna dictate, I hate doing the hardest last when I have been climbing all day and am smoked. I usually try to start on the one closest to the truck. But every situation is gonna be different. On a Monday morning I dont like to start on the Monster, but would rather get warmed up on the easier tree.

if i have more than 2 or 3 to do i start with the hardest. but if i have one thats not very significant and a difficult one i often do the easy one first. then when i'm done the hard one i'm done and on the ground for the day.

luke i'd like to introduce you to a key known as 'caps lock' i suspect yours is accidently engaged. please press it once before you type again. :D

I guess it's much like a gigsaw puzzle. In the woods you usually remove the one first that creates the biggest opening, thereby allowing the others a more unobstructed fall. It's all mostly instictual. The tree comes down first in your mind and the others follow suit.

got a friend working with me at the moment ,logger/faller (to wet out bush)hes still getting paid for whats stockpiled, and a better rate cause its sat for a while. supposedly a little drier

another thing i always bear in mind is which trees are blocking the sun out, and leave those till last
